Citation Styles

A citation is a reference to a published or unpublished source (not always the original source). More precisely, a citation is an abbreviated alphanumeric expression (e.g.< Newell84 >) embedded in the body of an intellectual work that denotes an entry in the bibliographic references section of the work for the purpose of acknowledging the relevance of the works of others to the topic of discussion at the spot where the citation appears”. In all languages there are different types of writing styles. In addition, English has many citation styles such as MLA, APA, AMA, Turabian, and Chicago style. First of all, MLA style and that mostly used for literature, arts, and humanities; moreover, that what most universities use in the U.S. Secondly, the APA that style is usually used for psychology, education, and other social sciences. Then, we have AMA style and sometimes this type of style used for medicine, health, and biological sciences. After that, turabian style is rarely used in the universities and usually used by college students. Finally, Chicago style that style considers as the easiest citation style, which is used with all subjects in the "real world" by books, magazines, newspapers, and other non-scholarly publications.

In sum, citation styles are really important in English language and most be used carefully and wisely. Every writer has to learn about citation and know how to use it correctly because it’s the most of the important parts in writing especially if you are taking a sentence from a book, newspaper, or the internet.

Group 6: I have difficulty organizing my writing.

Group 6: Yipeng Liu, Abdullah Ramadan, Mohammed Alamer
I have difficulty organizing my writing.
Anyone can write a good essay if they know what steps to follow. Essay organization makes the difference between a good essay and a poor essay. A student may have some great ideas, but if those ideas are unorganized and becomes difficult to read and despite the great ideas, will not be a good essay. If your paper is unorganized and your reader has to work hard to figure out what you’re saying, you haven’t achieved your purpose.

There are three main parts to an essay: the thesis, supporting points, and a conclusion.

· The thesis is the purpose of your paper. Point you plan to prove and main idea.

· Supporting points are the evidence you have found to support your thesis. If you can’t come up with very many supporting points, you’d better find a new thesis that you can support with facts. Each supporting point will be its own paragraph.

· Your conclusion is the final component of your essay and summary all point. In your conclusion, you want to reiterate your thesis, but you don’t want to just repeat words you’ve already written. This paragraph should be new writing tied closely to your previous points. Once you understand the components that make up an essay, you’ll find that organizing your thoughts becomes easier.
"Here are a few organizational patterns you might consider:
· Sequential—This style is particularly conducive when telling a story or relaying events chronologically. Simply double-check that your events are written in the order in which they happened.

· Spatially—This arrangement is a perfect fit when describing a scene. Depending upon what works best, you can describe from left to right, bottom to top, center to edge, near to far, or the opposite. These structures will help you take your reader along with you as you explore your observations.

· Importance—When writing persuasively or trying to make a point, you'll first want to consider what works best: hooking your reader with your main point and then following up with supportive details, or setting the reader up with the details to lead to your main point. Similarly, do you want to move from your most to your least important point, or vice versa?

· Comparison—When comparing two objects or situations to each other, there are two basic organizational patterns. One is to focus on the separate items, describing them in their entirety based on individual characteristics that they have in common. A second pattern is to focus on the characteristics themselves, describing the items as they apply to those characteristics.

· Cause and Effect—To explain the connections between an event and what caused it, you can begin with a general statement (either the cause or the effect) and then support that statement with details that represent the other."

In conclusion, once you've decided upon your topic and your audience—and possibly brainstormed some ideas or even completed your first draft—you'll want to revise by reorganizing your thoughts into a structure or format that works best to convey your message. We learned about all the three main points of how to write a good essay by organizing your ideas before you start writing such as the thesis, supporting points, and the conclusion.

Review of Little Princess

Conor gernnan the author has done a really good work writing the book. At first, I really thought it’s a boring book, but when I read the book I realized that it is not only about Conor traveling around the world. First, he volunteered in a third world orphanage in Nepal and he loved his experience over there, and all the children loved him and they were looking forward for him to stay with them. After the first year has passed and the time for him to go back to the states it was a really hard moments for him when the children asking him to stay in Nepal. He was upset, sad, and confused because the children were trying to convince him to stay. Moreover, he loved the children maybe more than they loved him, he felt like they are his own children and he’s committed to them, and that he would do anything to help them. Many volunteered who were in the same position as Conor never returned to Nepal, and that’s was a lack for the children to believe him that he’s coming back that’s why the kept asking him on and on.  He left Nepal and he visited a lot of countries after Nepal and he never forgot he’s promise to the children about returning to Nepal for them. Finally, he returned to Nepal he found out after talking to the woman that not all of the children are orphans and some have kidnaped by child traffickers. After the woman has explained everything to Conor, he decided to help them to return them to their families. He would risk his life on a journey through the legendary mountains of Nepal, facing the dangers all just to see every child happy with his/her family. Conor has invented the next generation Nepal; however, Conor’s organization, Next Generation Nepal, has reconnected almost 300 families with children they feared were lost to them forever. Honestly, I learned a lot from Conor’s experience, and this is a really interesting book. I would recommend it fro everyone to read it because it let you know abouth orpahanage in other countries and that we should the same and help them to return to their families, and even if they don’t have a family we should try to let them feel that there not strange in this world and we all as human are the same and no one is better than no one.

53-55

After he spent three months he became so important to the children. At the evening when he came to say good bye to the children for the last time and it was the hardest time for him because the children kept asking him if he's coming back? it was hard for him to convince the children with the truth and it was hard for him to give the children a false hope because he doesn't want to ruin the trust given by the children to the next group.

After he traveled around the world he couldn't forget the children, and he decided to go back for them

P.6-7

Conor Grennan went to Nepal to start his one year trip around the world. He wanted to do something new in his life because he's done with doing the same thing over and over, so he needed a change. In addition, he worked at EastWest Institute for eight year and that was he's only job out of college. After he was excited for his trip around the world it sounded bad for him after he heard his friends opinions when they told that this trip is kind of selfish move and he should think more about the future. He thought about doing something that doesn't sound selfish, so he volunteered in a third world orphanage by that it won't sound as selfish as it was when he was traveling around the world without reason.

Who am I?

My name is Abdullah Ramadan; I am twenty one year old. I am actually from Turkey, but I was born and raised in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. My native language is Arabic, and I have four siblings three boys and one girl, and lucky me I am the youngest member in my family. However, Most of the times I wish I had a younger brother I can play with and take care of him, but instead my siblings took care of me when I was a kid. I loved every moment in my childhood, and even my adulthood. After I graduated from high school I decided to complete my bachelor degree in the United States. In addition, I have been in the U.S. for almost two years and four months. I have learned English in the south part of America at Florida and Georgia. I studied English for a year and six months, and after I got the ‘IELTS’ I went to my home country for a vacation, and then I moved to Saint Cloud, Minnesota. I have been in Saint Cloud for 8 months now, and hopefully I can get my degree in mechanical engineering and graduate from here. At first it was hard for me to live in Saint Cloud because of the cold weather, which is really different from my country. In Saudi Arabia we only have two seasons are summer and winter. It gets super-hot in the summer more than a hundred degrees, and in the winter it stills warm and sunny except a few days  which it rains and a little windy. I hope I get used to Saint Cloud weather, for not to be an obstacle for me in my education.
